A former deckhand for legendary captain and lure maker Gene Vanderhoek, Wes Leslie learned the art of lure making from one of Kona's most accomplished big game fishermen. According to Captain Gene, he needed a steady supply of lures but was often too busy chasing big fish to pour his own, leading Wes to begin making lures himself.
Though never commercially available, Wes's handmade lures earned a quiet reputation among Kona captains and offshore anglers. Known by those who fished them, Wes Leslie Lures remain part of Kona's big game fishing and handcrafted lure-making history.
