The Bomboy Lures Medium Locknutt is a handmade Kona marlin lure with serious history behind the shape.
Captain John “Bomboy” Llanes used his Medium Locknutt to catch a massive 1,258 lb blue marlin during the 2003 Firecracker Open in Kona.
The November tournament fish became one of the most famous blue marlin catches in sportfishing history.
November is not considered prime blue marlin season in Kona, but Bomboy’s Medium Locknutt got the bite.
After a brutal 9-hour fight, the fish was landed in the dark and set a tournament blue marlin benchmark that is still legendary nearly two decades later.

Not all lure makers are fishermen, and not all fishermen are lure makers. Captain Bomboy Llanes is both. A 3rd generation Kona captain, Bomboy learned from his father, legendary Kona captain Kenny Llanes, and has spent more than 40 years fishing big game and building lures.
Bomboy captains full-time, runs his own lures, and does not make large batches often. When a new Bomboy Locknutt is available, it does not usually sit around long.
