In November 2003 Captain Bomboy Llanes was in the Firecracker Open Kona Fishing Tournament. November is not known as marlin season in Kona. However his medium Locknutt caught the attention of a big fish. It took 9 grueling hours to boat the fish. It was so big it set the record for the largest blue marlin ever caught in a tournament. This record still holds true today, nearly 20 years later!

In 2003 he caught his 2nd grander which was in the Kona off season and the first one ever caught in November. Cpt. Bomboy has over 45 years of experience fishing and making lures. His father is the legendary Cpt Kenny Llanes and Bomboy has been fishing since he can remember and had to polish lures as a kid.
