    Lure Maker Bio:

Capt. Bomboy Llanes has been slaying fish and crafting exceptional lures for over 45 years. His name is synonymous with success in the fishing world, and his world record for the largest blue marlin caught in a tournament—a massive 1,258-pound grander—has stood for over 20 years.

A true master of his craft, Bomboy is a two-time grander catcher and a multiple fishing tournament champion. Both of his granders were caught on lures he designed and made himself, and he exclusively runs his own creations on the water.

As a third-generation Kona big game fisherman, Bomboy carries on the legacy of a family deeply rooted in Hawaii’s fishing history. His father, Capt. Kenny Llanes—a renowned tournament-winning captain—taught Bomboy how to make lures as a child. Together, they are part of a legendary Kona big game fishing dynasty.

In 2003, Bomboy achieved another historic milestone, catching the first grander ever landed during Kona’s offseason in November. With over five decades of fishing and lure-making experience, Bomboy continues to lead the way in Kona’s world-renowned fishing community.
