Lure Maker Bio:
Aliʻi Kai Lures are handmade in Kona by charter captain Shawn Rotella, who’s fished Hawaiian waters for over 20 years. While working on Oʻahu, he met Hawaiian lure legends Joe Yee and Tom Futa—who soon became mentors. Tom welcomed him into his workshop and eventually passed down many original molds and hand-carved masters.
Shawn still uses those original Futa designs to craft many of his lures. Each one is shaped, poured, and tuned by hand—never factory made—and battle-tested on Shawn’s own charter, Night Runner.
Aliʻi Kai means “King of the Sea.” These lures are built to rule it.
