Al Bento's journey into lure crafting began in the 1970s with the creation of his first lure, “Ol’ Blu,” inspired by the unique movement of skipjack tuna, which is the same shape as this bullet. His passion and innovation reached a pinnacle on May 12, 1994, when he landed a massive 1207 lb. Pacific Blue Marlin. Battling 25-knot winds and 6–8 ft. seas, Al demonstrated his exceptional talent and reliance on his handcrafted lures. This achievement not only highlighted his skills but also solidified his place in Hawaii’s rich fishing heritage.
