The Story Behind the Aweoʻweo

Why did Capt. Bomboy Llanes create a trolling lure inspired by the Hawaiian aweoʻweo (squirrelfish)? The idea came from what the fish were actually eating.

"One day I had all my best lures out and nothing was biting. We finally put out some live bait and caught a few ahi. When I cut open their stomachs they were full of aweoʻweo!"

Capt. Bomboy Llanes

That experience inspired this distinctive color combination. Capt. Bomboy produced a small batch and commissioned Blue Ocean Manufacturing to make matching skirts specifically for the edition.

Made by a Kona Big Game Fishing Legend

Capt. Bomboy Llanes brings more than five decades of offshore fishing experience to his handcrafted trolling lures. A two-time grander catcher and winner of multiple fishing tournaments, Bomboy designs and builds his lures in Kona, Hawaiʻi.

In his own words: "The Baby Bomb catches everything!"

The Baby Bomb is also a popular choice for the stinger position in an offshore trolling spread.
