The Aliʻi Kai Peanut is a compact 7-inch bullet lure head designed to create more smoke and action than a standard small bullet. The four jets help add turbulence and a stronger bubble trail, making this lure a good fit for the stinger position on light tackle.
This lure can be run for ahi, ono, mahi, and other offshore pelagic species. It handles a range of trolling conditions, from calmer water to choppier seas, depending on skirt choice, leader, hook rig, boat speed, and spread setup.
This lure head is new and has minor surface bubble marks and small inclusions. These are cosmetic notes and do not take away from the lure’s trolling purpose, 4-jet action, or spread appeal.
Aliʻi Kai Lures are made by Kona charter captain Shawn Rotella, who has fished Hawaiian waters for over two decades. Shawn got his start in lure making after meeting Joe Yee and the late Tom Futa more than 22 years ago while working at Hawaii Fiberglass on Oahu.
Shawn was already experienced with resin from surfboard work and was also big game fishing on Oahu, making the move into lure making a natural step. Tom Futa first helped Shawn with basic lure-making knowledge, followed by invitations to the Joe Yee and Tom Futa workshop.
Before Tom Futa fully retired, Shawn Rotella purchased many of Futa’s molds, including wooden shape masters used to duplicate molds. Shawn has spent more than 11 years running his Kona charter boat, Night Runner, while testing and perfecting his handmade baits. Aliʻi Kai means King of the Sea.
