Lure Maker Bio:
Aliʻi Kai Lures are handmade in Kona by charter captain Shawn Rotella, who has fished Hawaiian waters for over 20 years. Tom Futa was the first to offer guidance and later invited Shawn into his workshop, along with Hawaiian legend Joe Yee. Shawn eventually acquired many of Futa’s original molds and wooden masters, which he still uses to craft his lures.
A record-setting Kona captain, Shawn has caught more sailfish than any other local captain, held six top big-game fishing spots in a single year, and landed one of the top three blue marlin ever caught on 50lb tackle. For over a decade, he’s tested and perfected every lure shape on his charter boat, Night Runner.
Aliʻi Kai means “King of the Sea” — lures built to dominate the ocean.
